Gail Chavenelle and Kenneth Bichell!
[January 2023] Gail and Kenneth are this year's Dupaco Community Credit Union scholarship winners. [Congratulations!]
Gail Chavenelle
Gail Chavenelle is a well known and successful Dubuque area solo working sheet metal artist. She applied for the Dupaco membership grant grant because she wants to explore and integrate other media such as wood, engraving and 3D printing. All these require machinery which is too expensive for solo purchase. KCCC also has the space for such projects. Most importantly, beyond learning through classes, Gail wanted to become part of KCCC's community sharing creatives. During her grant membership, Gail wants to explore, design and create a kinetic sculpture in wood and/ or metal. She is excited about this opportunity to take a new direction in her art and sculpture. Gail already features her art on her website www.chavenellestudio.com and has a following on Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. She shares her art in Facebook groups and her Youtube channel.
Kenneth Bichell
Kenneth Bichell applied for a Dupaco membership grant to develop his joinery skills. Ken has been a professional potter for over 40 years. He already has basic woodworking skills, and wants to build attractive displays for displaying his pottery. Ken makes unique Japanese style tea bowls. These are traditionally displayed in handcrafted wooden boxes with unique joinery. Ken also wants to use new woodworking skills he will learn at Key City Creative Center to construct display pedestals and tables. He also wants to build a pottery display suitable for traveling to exhibitions and shows. He has exhibited his potter in galleries and would like to go to craft fairs. The portable display would make that possible. He holds an annual gathering of Potters to fire a wood kiln. Artists come from as far away as California to participate in this ten-day event. Ken would gladly share his skills in throwing and hand building pottery with KCCC members.
